The Occupational English Test (OET) is an international English language test for healthcare professionals. It evaluates healthcare workers' language communication skills in order to register and practise in an English-speaking workplace.

Dentistry, dietetics, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry, radiography, speech pathology, and veterinary science are among the 12 professions for which OET is accessible.

Regulatory healthcare agencies and councils in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada, Malaysia, the Philippines, and, most recently, the United Kingdom and Ireland have recognised OET. OET is used by a variety of organisations, including hospitals, universities, and schools, to demonstrate a candidate's capacity to communicate successfully in a challenging healthcare context. FORMAT

OET provides a valid and reliable assessment of all four language skills – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking – with an emphasis on communication in medical and health professional settings. OET consists of four sub-tests:

Listening (approximately 50 minutes)

Reading (60 minutes)

Writing (45 minutes)

Speaking (approximately 20 minutes).

OET is offered up to 12 times per year and can be taken at locations all around the world.

Approximately 16 business days after the test, the results are released online. Following the release of online results, official statements of results are mailed out. Candidates receive distinct grades for each sub-test, hence there is no overall grade.

Most organisations that recognise candidates require at least a B in each of the four sub-tests, with results valid for up to two years. Candidates must also acquire the required grades for each sub-test in one session, according to most recognising organisations. Candidates should, however, validate current standards with the organisation that regulates their profession.
