  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a clinical coder
  • Clinical data from simple medical records can be identified and evaluated (abstract data from records for clinical coding)
  • Assign codes to clinical data as needed for reporting morbidity.
  • To ensure proper clinical coding of simple documents, apply your understanding of medicine and healthcare systems as needed.
  • Coded data is entered into computer systems.

Structure and Expect 

You don't have to work alone because you're studying online with an instructor. Modules with electives are used to teach the skills. You can go at your own pace and begin at any time. Students should complete one module every two weeks at a rate of 15 hours per module.
